Music director and singer Vishal Dadlani, lyricist Poojan Sahil and Penn Masala, the world’s first South Asian a cappella group, have come up with a new song dedicated to migrant workers who have gone through hardships during the coronavirus pandemic.

The new song titled Main Hoon Na Tera was released on Penn Masala’s Youtube channel on August 29. It has been composed by Dadlani and penned by him and Sahil. Through their song, the artists are telling the migrants that they are not alone. Penn Masala, which is run by students at the University of Pennsylvania, has ten members.

The track has been created remotely as artists have recorded it from cities like Pune, New Delhi, Mumbai, San Francisco, Boston, Portland and New Jersey.

It has been put out with an aim to create awareness of the plight of migrant workers and motivate people to contribute for their support.

All the proceeds from this initiative will go to the Indian Leadership Forum Against Trafficking (ILFAT) and Tafteesh. These two not-for-profit organizations have raised relief for the migrants who were caught in a debt trap and could fall prey to human trafficking.

“What makes us human? I believe compassion makes us human. If we can find it in our hearts to come together and even now help them a little more – as much as we can – I think we can make a huge difference,” Livemint reported quoting Dadlani.

This is not the first time that Penn Masala has come forward for a cause. In February, it collaborated with singer Benny Dayal for a song on mental health.

The song titled Musafir was a mash-up of Everglow and Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gayi, a track from movie Ghajini, reported The Hindu quoting Ajay Vasisht of Penn Masala. They chose Benny for the song as he had sung the original version of the Ghajini song.
